Accountability Letter Instructions Due Date: January 25, 2026

For this assignment, you will write a reflective letter to someone you are accountable to in your work as an educator or future school leader. This letter is an opportunity to share your personal story, reflect on challenges you see in education, and explore how your leadership can create meaningful change. 

Your letter should be no longer than 500 words and can be less if it addresses all the key prompts.

Structure and Prompts 

Start your letter with:

In your letter, reflect on the following: 

Your Story in Education 

Share part of your journey in education. How you got to where you are today. What experiences or moments inspired you to pursue this work? What keeps you committed to doing the work?

A Challenge in education 

Identify a challenge you encounter in your work or foresee encountering as a school leader.

Examples of challenges include: 

Issues between students, between students and teachers, between teachers and administrators, district mandates.  Limited resources or mismanaged funding impacting student opportunities.  Opportunity gaps, structural concerns Policy challenges Addressing the Challenge 

Reflect on how you currently try to confront this challenge in your work. 

Discuss the ways you feel equipped to address it and where you feel limited in your ability to make change. 

Leadership Qualities 

Identify the leadership qualities or skills that would help you address this challenge more thoroughly. How could you strengthen these qualities? 

A More Ideal Outcome 

Envision a more ideal outcome related to this challenge. What would success look like for the students, teachers, or community members impacted? 

Grading Criteria (25 Points) 

Reflection and Depth (10 Points): Thoughtful exploration of your story, the challenge, and your leadership vision.  Application of Course Themes (8 Points): Demonstrates understanding of leadership, and course concepts in your reflection.  Clarity and Intention (5 Points): Letter is organized, clear, and meaningful, with a strong personal voice.  Formatting and Submission (2 Points): Adheres to word limit and submission guidelines, with minimal grammar or spelling errors.  This assignment is about intention over writing quality. Focus on being honest, reflective, and personal. Your letter should capture your unique perspective and commitment to addressing challenges in education.
