As a secondary content area teacher, it will be important for you to design reading units that also integrate reading and writing into content area subjects that students are learning about. Books and technology will naturally become key resources and provide you with opportunities to integrate reading with other subject areas (e.g., mathematics, science, social studies, the arts – visual or performance, physical education, or health education).
In this summative assessment, you will design a content area literacy unit based on students’ learning needs. In addition to a unit overview, you will design 3 lesson plans that concentrate on applying content area vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing instructional strategies, along with incorporating appropriate technology to support and enhance content area literacy teaching and learning.
