This unit fosters students’ understanding of a holistic approach to curriculum in early childhood settings, with an emphasis on integrated learning across developmental domains for children aged birth to five years. Students will explore how to promote children's conceptual knowledge through curriculum, pedagogy, and play, aligning with key national frameworks such as the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF v2.0, AGDE 2022) and the National Quality Standard (NQS, ACECQA 2018).
Task Description
The purpose of this assignment is to deepen your knowledge and understanding of how everyday objects, routines, and resources in early childhood settings can promote learning and development across foundational learning areas (as outlined in the Australian Curriculum – Foundation Year).
You will:
Connect practical learning environments to EYLF Principles, Practices, and Learning Outcomes.
Demonstrate understanding of the role of children’s play in learning and development.
Justify pedagogical decisions using relevant theory and academic literature.
Task Instructions
Part 1 – Image Creation (Generative AI Use Permitted)
Use ChatGPT to generate an image of an early childhood learning environment (indoor or outdoor).
The environment must have a play-based focus and integrate at least three of the following learning domains:
Language and Literacy
Creative Arts
Physical and Emotional Wellbeing
History and Culture (Time, Equity, Social Justice)
Requirements:
Screenshot and include the prompt(s) used in an Appendix.
Submit the generated image with your assessment.
Part 2 – Learning Environment Analysis (Limited AI Use Only)
You must critically analyse the environment you created in Part 1. Your analysis should explain how the space supports children’s learning and development, making connections to curriculum and pedagogy.
Your analysis must include:

2 EYLF Practices
2 EYLF Learning Outcomes
2 NQS Quality Areas
2 Developmental Domains
(Choose from: physical, cognitive, language, social and emotional, creative)
Support your discussion with:

Part 3 – Referencing and Submission
