- Describe the values you bring to nursing (a maximum of 3 values). Support your discussion with the academic literature In this section you should provide an account of the values you bring to nursing.
- Drawing on academic literature, explain why you feel these are important Here you should explain why your values are important to patient care. This should be supported by reference to relevant academic literature. For example, if you are committed to valuing diversity and compassion, what does the literature tell you about why these things are important?
- Describe a situation or experience where one of your values has been challenged or tested and explain how you managed this. Support your discussion with academic literature. There are a number of ways in which you might approach this. For example, you might write about an occasion when you felt unable to act in way which is consistent your chosen value – how did this feel and what did you do? Alternatively you might chose to write about an experience where, as a result of reading or teaching, your understanding or beliefs about a value changed.
- Describe the learning you took from that experience and, drawing on relevant academic literature, explain how it will change your future practice or thinking. How did the experience of challenge change your thinking and how will it impact your practice in the future.
