Module Aims
To develop the students’ knowledge of how Health and Safety Legislation is applied in a practical manner in the workplace.
To develop the student to be able to critically compare good practice, and to develop knowledge of global work-based practice that supports the application of the legislative requirements.
Module Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
- LO1 Critically compare and appraise the use of the best practice approach as a means of managing Health and Safety at work.
- LO2 Demonstrate the application of best practice to Health and Safety management.
- LO3 Analyse common health and safety problems from an EU and wider global perspective, formulate solutions and demonstrate a critical awareness of how legal principles affect domestic law and policy.
- LO4 Critically appraise the interplay between domestic policy formulation and its application by duty holders.
Module Learning Activities
You will have a two-hour lecture session each week. The lectures will take place in accordance with the timetable
Students are expected to:
- Attend and participate in weekly lectures and complete self-study exercises and group study exercises
- Be self-motivated and independent learners
- Read academic literature around their subject area and research methods to support their development and enable them to adequately prepare for assessments.
- Students will be encouraged to register on the IOSH website to gain access to the IOSH research area, where they will be able to gain access to IOSH sponsored research information.

- Your poster should be in a field/subject relevant to your study. The poster and story should be submitted using the template provided. Please submit as a Word document.
