Short introduction to the task:

• You may use generative AI such as ChatGPT to assist you in the process of undertaking the assessment in the following ways: brainstorming, research, planning, feedback, editing.

Case study:  You will pick one case study and critically appraise contemporary health and social care policy and legislation to respond to the complexity of working with differing disciplinary groups, service users and organisations in the sector- in this case, you should focus on the case of the individual.  Then critically examine concepts and theories of mental health and illness across the life course, appraising causal factors and the impact of social determinants and inequalities faced by individuals experiencing mental health problems.

Produce a critical written assignment that demonstrates:

Appraisal of Policy & Legislation (40%)

• Critically evaluate contemporary health and social care policy and legislation related to mental health.
• Show how these are applied in practice across different professional groups, service users, and organisations.
• Highlight complexity, strengths, and limitations.

Examination of Theories & Concepts (40%)

• Critically examine theories and concepts of mental health and illness across the life course.
• Discuss causal factors and the role of social determinants and inequalities.
• Apply this knowledge to a case study, using at least two theories to provide a balanced, critical comparison.

Sources, Evidence & Referencing (20%)

• 10% Evidence: Use a wide range of credible, up-to-date academic and policy sources.
• 10% Referencing: Follow APA conventions accurately and consistently.

You should also consult additional reading comprising of academic journal articles, academic books, and academic book chapters to establish key points to overcome. Make sure that academic writing and referencing follows standard conventions. Ensure that structure, flow, spelling and grammar are professional and should follow the APA guidelines.
