APA Helps for Food, Culture and Health

In this course, you have two projects where you will need to follow APA guidelines for citing and including references. For the Food, Culture and Health Presentation in this course, five of the ten references are to be peer-reviewed articles from scholarly journals. Other reputable sources include government or academic web resources (the URLs for these typically end in .gov or .edu).  Avoid using sources that cannot be deemed as credible, including Wikipedia, and websites with URLs ending in .com, or .net. Those ending with .org may possibly be reputable (if it is a professional reputable organization).

•        For the Reflection Paper, you must reference the two articles provided int eh instructions. I discourage you from using other references because the bulk of the paper is your personal reflection. Your paper should not be based on the view(s) of anyone else.

Per APA, the reference list:

•        You are expected to follow the basic rules found at this link: APA Reference List: Basic Rules

•        Is not numbered.

•        Is formatted so that each reference has a hanging indent.

•        Contains all references that are used in the presentation.

•        Requires all references listed to be cited in the text and all references in the text found on the reference list.

o   In a paper, each reference on the list is cited in the text of the paper.

o   In our assignment, the references are to be cited on the slides as stated in the instructions of the assignment. This is referred to as using “in-text citations”.

Regarding APA, the link above is to one of the pages of the Purdue Online Writing Lab – this is another excellent resource – I have included the link to the full website below.

Follow APA Guidelines for formatting the Reference Slides and for citing references on slides.

•        You are expected to use the most current Publication Manual of the APA is the 7th edition; this edition was released in October, 2019.

•        Again, the link below will provide the 7th edition guidelines.

I realize there are many, many APA rules – I am still learning them! I also understand that some of you are new to learning APA. While I do not expect perfection in the presentations, I do expect you to incorporate information I am making available to you through this handout and the other references provided in this course. Many courses you take in our program will expect you to follow APA format; so, I strongly recommend becoming familiar with the process now.

I hope this is helpful to you.
