One current research problem in advanced nursing practice that interests me is how to better manage the symptom burden pediatric oncology patients experience during chemotherapy. Children going through cancer treatment commonly deal with nausea and vomiting throughout their treatment journey. In the pediatric oncology setting, I have seen how these symptoms can affect not only the child’s physical health, but also their sleep, appetite, mood, ability to participate in normal childhood activities, and even their willingness to continue treatment and I believe more research is needed on non-pharmacological interventions approaches that can improve symptom management and overall quality of life for pediatric oncology patients.
