Overview
In this assignment, you will describe a societal trend in criminal justice and explain how it affects the public.
Prompt
In Module One, you learned about two societal trends in criminal justice: (1) how police build rapport and improve community relations and (2) how the use of technology is increasing in criminal justice. You looked more deeply at one particular type of technology—body cameras—and explained the pros and cons of using body cameras, as well as how elements of the criminal justice system and society contribute to the use of body cameras. In this module, you learned about two more societal trends in criminal justice: how bail reform impacts the criminal justice system and the community and how the criminal justice system has adapted to the drug addiction paradigm shift from an individual’s choice to the disease model. For this assignment, you will choose one of these societal trends to focus on. This trend will be the basis for both this assignment and for Project One, which is due in Module Five. You will describe the trend and explain how it affects the public.
First, choose one of the societal trends that we have covered throughout Modules One and Two:
- How police build rapport and improve community relations
- How the use of technology is increasing in criminal justice
- How bail reform impacts the criminal justice system and the community
- How the criminal justice system has adapted to the drug addiction paradigm shift from an individual’s choice to the disease model
Then, address the following rubric criteria:
- In 75 to 100 words, craft a brief description of the trend. Include the following in your description:
- Describe the trend.
- Explain why the trend is relevant to the field of criminal justice.
- In 100 to 125 words, explain how the trend affects the public. Include the following in your explanation:
- Describe who is affected by the trend.
- Explain how they are affected.
