In this assignment, you will apply your knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding accuracy, compliance regulations, and reimbursement methodologies to create a proposal for improving chargemaster maintenance

Purpose

In this assignment, you will apply your knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding accuracy, compliance regulations, and reimbursement methodologies to create a proposal for improving chargemaster maintenance in a healthcare facility. Chargemaster accuracy is essential for ensuring appropriate reimbursement, preventing compliance issues, and minimizing financial risk under Medicare and Medicaid payment systems.

Scenario

You are a financial analyst responsible for chargemaster audits and maintenance at a midsize hospital. The previous chargemaster coordinator left three months ago, and there are significant delays in updating codes, prices, and payer requirements. Leadership is concerned about the impact on ICD-10-CM coding accuracy, Medicare/Medicaid PPS reimbursement, and compliance audit risks.

Your task is to review best practices, propose a chargemaster maintenance process that integrates coding accuracy and compliance controls, and develop a visual workflow that leadership can use to train staff and prevent future delays.

Assignment Instructions

Part 1: Research and Analysis

Review      ICD-10-CM official coding guidelines, Medicare/Medicaid      reimbursement rules (e.g., MS-DRGs, APCs), and compliance      regulations (e.g., HIPAA, False Claims Act). Identify      at least three risks that delayed chargemaster updates pose to      reimbursement accuracy and regulatory compliance. Summarize      three best practices for chargemaster and claims management that      ensure coding accuracy and cost control.

Part 2: Process Improvement Proposal

Write a 3–5 page proposal for leadership that includes:

Overview:      Importance of chargemaster accuracy for coding, compliance, and      reimbursement integrity. Risk      Analysis: Financial and compliance consequences of delayed updates. Best      Practices: At least three evidence-based practices for chargemaster      maintenance. Proposed      Process: A detailed process for chargemaster updates, including coding      verification, compliance auditing steps, and quality controls. Visual      Workflow: A flowchart or diagram of your proposed chargemaster      maintenance process using software such as Word, PowerPoint, or another      tool.

Part 3: Reflection Questions (Separate Document)

Answer each in 4–6 sentences:

How      does coding accuracy in the chargemaster affect Medicare/Medicaid      reimbursement under PPS systems? What      compliance regulations are most critical for chargemaster maintenance, and      why? How      could technology, such as EHR integration or automation tools, reduce      delays and coding errors?
