Collaborative Professional Development/Digital Citizenship
General Instructions:
In this assignment, you will use YouTube to explore the topic of Digital Citizenship. You will also consider how these topics relate to the emergence and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. You will collect, archive, share, and sort videos that illustrate different aspects of digital citizenship, such as cybersecurity, online safety, privacy, ethics, digital literacy, access/participation, and cyberbullying. You will also reflect on how AI affects these aspects and what challenges and opportunities it poses for your students as digital citizens.
Learning Objectives:
ISTE Standards: Digital Citizenship, Digital Collaboration
By completing this assignment, you will be able to:
• Identify key components of digital citizenship by searching for, evaluating, and organizing videos that relate to these topics: cybersecurity, online safety, privacy, ethics, digital literacy, access/participation, cyberbullying, and Artificial Intelligence. Evaluate and critique all videos before sharing them on your YouTube channel.
• Use basic YouTube tools to create playlists, channels, tag (organize) videos by topic, and share them with your subscribers.
• Apply the ISTE Standards for Students to your own digital citizenship practices.
Instructions:
Part 1:
• Go to YouTube (youtube.com) and create a free user account if you don't have one already.
• Search for videos that address the following question: o What is digital citizenship, and why is it important?
• Find videos on these topics to help you define and explain digital citizenship: cybersecurity, online safety, privacy, ethics, digital literacy, access/participation, digital rights/responsibilities, cyberbullying, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
• Select at least 12 (10 pts. per video) quality videos that you find accurate, relevant, informative, and engaging. Watch each video carefully and take notes on the main points, arguments, examples, and sources.
• Create a playlist on YouTube and add the videos you selected. Give your playlist a descriptive title and write a brief introduction that summarizes the theme and purpose of your playlist. Consider these points when writing your introduction:
o What is digital citizenship, and why is it important? o What are some of the rights and responsibilities of digital citizens? o What are some of the skills and competencies that digital citizens need in the 21st century?
o How does AI affect digital citizenship in terms of online safety, privacy, ethics, literacy, and participation?
o What are some of the benefits and risks of AI for digital citizens?
• Create a channel (100 pts.) on YouTube and upload your playlist. Give your channel a catchy name that reflects the broad theme of Digital Citizenship and write a short description that introduces yourself and your topic. Add relevant tags to your channel to help others find it.
• Share your channel with your classmates and instructor using the Blackboard discussion forum for this assignment (Digital Citizenship and AI Forum). Subscribe to other students’ channels.
• Watch at least four classmates’ playlists and post a reflection, that includes constructive feedback, pertaining to their channels using the same Blackboard discussion forum for Digital Citizenship and AI. (25 pts per response.) Therefore, you should simply post a reply to their link. Your reflection/feedback must be a minimum of four paragraphs in length. Consider the following criteria when posting your reflection/constructive feedback:
o Relevance: How well do the videos address the topic of digital citizenship and AI?
o Quality: How accurate, credible, and reliable are the videos? Do they provide evidence and sources to support their claims?
o Diversity: How diverse are the perspectives, voices, and formats of the videos? Do they represent different viewpoints, experiences, and styles?
o Organization: How well do the videos fit together in a coherent sequence? Do they have clear transitions and connections?
o Presentation: How appealing and engaging are the videos? Do they use effective visuals, audio, and narration?
Part 2:
• Write a reflection paper (2-3 pages) in APA format synthesizing what you learned from this assignment. Include the following sections in your paper:
o Introduction: Provide an overview of your playlist and channel. Include a brief explanation of why the topic is important and how it relates to your personal or professional interests.
o Body (3-4 paragraphs): Discuss the main findings, insights, and questions that emerged from watching and analyzing the videos. Compare and contrast different perspectives on digital citizenship and AI. Relate your findings to the ISTE Standards for Students
(https://www.iste.org/standards/for-students) and explain how they apply to your own digital citizenship practices.
o Conclusion: Summarize your main points and implications. Reflect on how this assignment enhanced your understanding of digital citizenship and AI. Identify any challenges or limitations you encountered or any areas you would like to explore further.
• Submit your reflection paper along with a link to your YouTube channel to your instructor. • (Reflection Paper with link 180 pts.)
