Talent Management
Mohamed "Mo" Salah is an Egyptian professional football player who plays as for premier league club Liverpool and captains the national Team of Egypt. He is widely regarded as one of the best players of his generation and one of the greatest wingers of all time. But his journey did not start there. Salah started in Egypt playing for the youth setups of local teams Ittihad Basyoun and Othmason Tanta. He was spotted by a scout and recruited to play with EL Mokawloon and was later rejected from Zamalek club. His breakthrough came when he was signed up by the Swiss premier Club- Basel. He is now signed up with Premier League club Liverpool and captains the Egyptian National Football team. His talent was spotted and developed to the level that he is at today. He has also raised the profile of Liverpool and the Egypt national team. Sourcing football talent is an ongoing activity. Effective Talent Management starts with talent identification, followed by managing the expectations to gain results.
Human Resource Managers face a challenge when trying to balance the need for high-performing talent with the need to develop and retain existing employees. A dilemma may arise when organisations try to fill available positions using in-house employees who do not fit the bill for the position. Organisations have to find a way to attract, train and retain top talent whilst providing opportunity for existing employees to also grow and develop in the organisation.
Vocational Scenario
You should have chosen your research topic during last session when you prepared the research proposal. You are now required to conduct the fieldwork relating to your chosen area for research. The research should be conducted on a UK based company. Each student is required to select a different company for the project.
