Assignment : AI in Business and Society Blogs

Aims of the Assignment The main aim of this assignment is to provide you with the opportunity to develop your understanding of several key areas of Artificial Intelligence in Business and Society through drafting three 1,000-word blogs. In addition, it should help you to become more skilled at writing concise, interesting pieces addressing complex issues. The word limit for the assignment is 3,000 (+/- 10%, not including the bibliography). This should be divided approximately equally across the blogs. It is worth 60% of the mark for the module.

The final submission date for Assignment 2 is Friday 6 May 2022 at 11.59pm via Canvas. However, students may submit one or more of their blogs in advance of this in order to receive early feedback and Canvas will be set up to facilitate this. When you are ready for a blog to be assessed, please make a note in the comments box next to the assignment on Canvas so that this is clear to the Module Coordinator (you may wish to upload draft blogs that you do not wish to be assessed in order to check the Similarity Report on Turnitin). Per the Management School guidelines, feedback will be provided within three working weeks of submission. (For example, a student may wish to submit their first blog in Week 6 in order to receive feedback by Week 9, which they can then use to inform their approach to their second and third blogs.). Once they have been assessed, blogs cannot be resubmitted.

Content of the Blogs Each blog should relate to at least one topic covered within the module (i.e., you should cover three different topics in total). For example, you may wish to investigate the:

Increasing interest in AI on the part of businesses, government, and/or the public History of AI as it relates to business and society Potential economic and/or social impact of AI Concerns regarding surveillance and privacy Future of employment and wealth Challenges facing leaders/managers in relation to the adoption of AI Development of data driven business strategies Nature of ethics and social responsibility in the age of AI Impact of disruptive technologies on corporate governance  

The blogs should follow standard academic conventions and you should aim to be critical, rather than merely descriptive, in your approach. You should refer to a range of academic sources, which you may wish to supplement with news articles, reports, research studies, etc. to make the discussion more topical and engaging. Please note, you cannot reuse content from Assignment 1 in your blogs (for example, the oral transcript). They must constitute a new piece of work. 

Some Specific Tips on Blog Writing

Start with a compelling title/headline that captures attention. Include a short paragraph at the start outlining the purpose/topic of the post that encourages the reader to continue. Aim to be useful and informative (what will someone get out of reading your blog? For example, deeper understanding, links to other resources, etc.). Use subheadings and bullet points to break up the text.
