IT 505 Milestone Three Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
For Milestone Three, you will prepare and submit a three-slide presentation about your company’s information security needs and risks. You will also create two tutorials in the form of handouts to help employees make their computers more secure. The tutorials are artifacts that demonstrate you know how to implement changes that improve the functionality of web technologies, such as web browsers.
Directions
Part One: Information Security Presentation
Create a professional three-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation. Use real-world examples to strengthen your presentation, which must contain information on three topics: the definition of information assurance, the risks of not following best practices to maintain information security, and at least two countermeasures a company such as ABC Electronics could use to combat a security breach.
Part Two: Tutorials
Many employees have had trouble setting the default homepage on their web browser and limiting the number of cookies sites. You will create two tutorials to help employees, and you will share them at the upcoming team meeting to ensure all on the team can support employees who need assistance. Create both tutorials in a single document, and tailor the tutorial to a browser of your choosing.
Tutorial One: Set the default homepage on a web browser
Scenario: The IT department experienced a glitch during recent computer updates. The default homepage on all employee computers is www.wikipedia.com. Create a step-by-step tutorial that shows users how to access the browser settings and set the default homepage. Include instructions for employees to set the homepage to a website of their choosing.
Tutorial 2: Disable the use of cookies in the default web browser
Scenario: A hacker deployed code that enabled browsers to track all cookies, making it easier for an attack to occur. Using the same browser as in Tutorial 1, create a step-by-step tutorial that shows users how to access the cookie settings and then enable and disable them.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
- Information Security – Access: Provide a slide with a description of information assurance.
- Information Security – Risks: Provide a slide explaining the risks associated with non-adherence to information security processes.
- Information Security – Countermeasures: Provide a slide describing countermeasures to mitigate information security risks.
- Instructions – Set Homepage: Provide a tutorial for setting the company website as the homepage for newly updated computers.
- Instructions – Cookies: Provide a tutorial for enabling and disabling cookies.
What to Submit
Submit your report as two files. Submit Part One as a 3-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation. Submit Part Two as a single 2- to 3-page Microsoft Word document. Use double-spacing, 12 pt Times New Roman Font, and one-inch margins in the tutorials.
