Description and Purpose This assignment is designed to help you develop skills in data storytelling and effective data analysis strategies. You will use data to tell a meaningful story, supporting your narrative with clear visualizations and analytical insights. By framing data within a structured storytelling framework, you will explore how data can influence decision-making processes in real-world contexts.
You will demonstrate the ability to interpret and analyze data in a meaningful way, ultimately developing a compelling data story that highlights the problem, analysis, and insights. Using data visualizations, you will enhance the storytelling process and apply problem-solving frameworks in data analysis. By effectively communicating their findings clearly and concisely to a non-technical audience, you will not only showcase your analytical skills but also demonstrate your ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
Instructions Identify the Dataset: Choose the dataset created for the Data Profile (M2 Assignment). Ensure that the dataset has enough depth and variability to allow for analysis. Problem Identification: Begin your story by clearly identifying the problem your data addresses. Use data to: Compare what is expected and what is occurring. Highlight key metrics that frame the problem. Communicate why this problem is significant and why it matters to your audience. Data Analysis (Problem Analysis): Dive deeper into your dataset to analyze the root cause of the identified problem: What do the data suggest are the potential reasons for the issue? Use statistical methods or visualizations (e.g., scatter plots, trend lines) to explore relationships in the data. Support your analysis with the domains outlined in the template (demographics, perceptions, student learning, school processes, etc.). Plan Development: Propose solutions based on your analysis: What interventions or changes do you recommend? Justify your proposed plan using data to demonstrate how your solution addresses the problem. Ensure the plan follows the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) framework. Plan Implementation and Evaluation: Describe how the implementation of your solution would be monitored and evaluated: What performance benchmarks or metrics would you track to measure success? Present a mock timeline for implementation and show how changes could be measured over time. Final Presentation (Data Story): Create a data-driven presentation using the provided Data Storytelling Template. Your final story should: Engage the audience by framing the narrative clearly (“Once upon a time…” structure from the template). Incorporate visual elements that help explain the data effectively (graphs, charts, etc.). Include questions to prompt audience engagement and discussion at key points. Aim for a presentation duration of 10-15 minutes to maintain audience engagement and focus. The presentation deck should be between 5-10 slides. Use a voiceover to provide detailed explanations for each slide.
