Part 2: Concept Planning Stage of Romance Movie Analysis
In Part 1, you watched your movie and collected detailed observations about the romantic couple and their relationship. In Part
2, you will return to those observations and begin identifying course concepts that may help you understand and eventually
analyze the couple's relationship. Because we have not yet covered all course topics, you are NOT expected to know every
concept you will use in your final analysis yet. Some of your observations may connect to topics we will cover later in the
course. That is completely fine!
Step 1: Review Concepts We Have Covered So Far
By this point in the course, we have covered topics related to:
• Family trends and changes in intimate relationships
• Diverse family structures
• Gender roles
• Sexuality
• Dating and romantic relationships
• Falling in love
• Selecting a life partner
• Marriage and getting married
Return to your Part 1 notes and consider which of these areas may help explain what you observed. For the observations that
connect to these topics, review your textbook, lecture materials, and other course materials and identify specific concepts
that may be useful for your later analysis. For each relevant concept:
1. Identify the concept.
2. Define/explain the concept in your own words based on the course materials.
3. Briefly note how it might relate to your observation.
