Part A

Since this assignment asks for your personal reflections on the required readings, essays generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools will not express your thoughts and your voice and, thus, will not meet the criteria of the rubric (See below).  Critical thinking, above all else, means thinking for yourself. Please do not let AI think for you!

There is no minimum required word count for this assignment, but bear in mind that it is very rare for an assignment with fewer than 250 words to earn full credit.

Assignments will be accepted for up to two weeks past the due date, but a late penalty (10% per day late) will be applied.

Part C

Week 7:  Diversity and stress, Occupational Stress and Family Stress

This week we will be discussing chapters 15, 16, & 17

Chapter 15

1) Have you ever experienced stress because of one of your social identities (race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability status, socioeconomic class, religion...just to name a few).  What was the situation and how did you cope with it?

2) What is something that you would like others to do/understand about one or more of your identities that would decrease your stress?  What is something that you would like to do/understand about someone different than you to reduce their stress?

3) Complete the lab assessment, "What biases do you possess?".  What was the activity like for you to complete it?

Chapter 16

1) Have you ever experienced burn out at a job?  How did you know?

2) Complete the lab assessment "Do you have burnout or brownout?"  What was that activity like for you?

Chapter 17

3) Families can be both sources of joy and stress.  Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) can have a profound impact on the way that individuals experience and cope with stress which in turn can affect overall health later in life.  The following is a resource that describes the 10 different childhood traumas and their effect on health.  It also provides an assessment questionnaire:

Given the sensitive nature of trauma, there is no expectation for you to respond to this question.  I wanted to share this resource not just as your professor, but as a person who has experienced childhood trauma.  I have found it very helpful both personally and professionally as a licensed psychologist when I work with patients with childhood trauma.  Even if you have not experienced adverse childhood experiences, this resource can help you understand others that are ACEs.  If you would like to comment and reflect on this resource, please also feel supported to do so.
