About HCM4006 Health Promotion Academic Poster Presentation Assignment

The HCM4006 Health Promotion Academic Poster Presentation is a task designed to test your ability to explain health promotion concepts in a clear, visual, and evidence-based way. Instead of writing a long report, you will use a poster format to present your research, ideas, and recommendations on a specific health topic. This means your work needs to be visually appealing, well-structured, and easy to understand, while still showing strong academic research.

For this assignment, you are expected to:

  • Choose a relevant health promotion topic – this could be anything from encouraging healthier eating in schools to reducing smoking rates, improving mental health awareness, or promoting exercise in older adults.
  • Use credible research – all information on your poster should be backed by reliable, up-to-date sources, such as peer-reviewed journals, health organisation reports, and official statistics.
  • Apply health promotion theories and models – for example, the Health Belief Model, Stages of Change, or Ottawa Charter principles, to show the academic reasoning behind your recommendations.
  • Plan the design carefully – use headings, bullet points, infographics, images, and colour to make the poster easy to follow. Avoid overcrowding with text; aim for balance between visuals and words.
  • Communicate for your audience – even though it’s academic, the content should be simple enough for non-specialists to understand while still showing depth for an academic assessor.
  • Follow the marking criteria – make sure you meet all learning outcomes, including clarity, structure, referencing, and the ability to analyse and evaluate health promotion approaches.

In short, this assignment is not just about showing you know the theory; it’s about translating academic knowledge into a clear and persuasive public health message. The better you balance research, design, and communication, the more effective your poster will be.
