Friend or Foe? A Critical Analysis of Mark Daly as an Insider Threat in Terrorism for UK Police
Task summary: Mark Daly (dubbed the undercover policeman) was a BBC investigative journalist who infiltrated Greater Manchester Police as a student constable. In doing so, he revealed an organisation awash with racism and as a result multiple officers lost their jobs and an investigation ensued. Many years later, as the Police Education Qualifications Framework commenced, the Counter-Terrorism Command created the terrorism lessons to be used (which was rolled out nationally). One of the lessons, which addressed the “insider threat” of terrorists used Mark Daly as an example to teach future officers about the threat of terrorists working within organisations inclusive of police entities.
The assignment will ask you to examine this case study and argue whether using Mark Daly as a case study to teach student officers across the country about this threat is justified. Does Mark Daly meet the threshold of the insider threat of a terrorist within the police? Or did he do UK policing a favour You have a choice of two format options (below). Whichever format is chosen, it should contain the equivalent depth of content.
Option 1: You are required to create a 4000-word written report using the above case study and answering the questions posed; fully supported by evidence.
Option 2: Using the above scenario, create and present (record with picture and sound) a pre-recorded presentation
