The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize students with using resources and technology to assist in career counseling and development. Students will take the 16personalities.com personality assessment, along with the O*NET Profiler assessment, and write a paper reflecting upon that information.

 

Part One

 

For the first part of this assignment, following the instructions below, you will take the 16personalities.com psychological type assessment and the O*NET Interest Profiler. The purpose of this component of the assignment is to help you understand the processes for identifying and using career, vocational, educational, occupational, and labor market information resources, technology, and information systems (2F.4.c).

Part Two

 

Using the results from your 16personalities.com assessment and O*NET Interest Profiler, answer the following questions in essay form using APA formatting style. You are permitted to write it in first-person since you are the one completing the assessments and answering questions about your results. The paper should be no less than five pages, not including the title page and reference section. An abstract is not necessary. A minimum of five scholarly sources is required for this assignment. The two assessments are considered sources, and your course textbook can count as a third source. Therefore, you will need to find two additional scholarly sources to use. All APA formatting conventions (double-spacing, headings, etc.) are expected.

Identify your four-letter psychological type code. This assessment provides five total letters but the “-T or -A” at the end of the four-letter code is an added descriptor that is not part of the Myers-Briggs model.

Find and describe five potential strengths of your type. Any surprises? In more detail, describe two areas of strength for your specific psychological type that seem particularly true.

Find and describe five potential challenge areas for your psychological type. Any surprises? In greater detail, describe two of the challenge areas in which you struggle more than the others. The purpose of this component of the assignment personality, and other factors that contribute to career development (2F.4.e).

Suppose you have a client in the future that shares your specific psychological type and is experiencing conflict at their workplace (create a scenario as needed). Provide two coaching points you would bring them related to how they might use their specific strengths to better function in their work environment.

Create a very brief scenario (2-3 sentences) where your client has a different psychological type than their direct supervisor at work. Provide two coaching points you would bring them related to how they might interact with their direct supervisor in a way that creates more understanding between them.

Using two scholarly sources, provide two examples of how you would work with the client to overcome an area of challenge related to their psychological type in their workplace (i.e., describe various coping strategies, cognitive reframes, structured journal exercises, etc. that you would use to help the client.)

Identify 2 interests revealed in the O*NET assessment that came as a surprise to you. What was surprising about that information?

Provide 2 examples of client situations in which you would you use the O*NET assessment with future clients.

Discuss how you might use the O*NET assessment results to begin a discussion with a client. The purpose of this component of the assignment is to demonstrate the strategies for assessing abilities, interests, values, personality, and other factors that contribute to career development (2F.4.e)..
