Case Presentation: Case Conceptualization (CPCC) Assignment Instructions
Overview
This Case Presentation: Case Conceptualization (CPCC) is the second part of your Benchmark Case Presentation Final (CPF) comprehensive case presentation due in Module / Week 7 of this course. This CPCC is a formative assignment in that you will get to “practice” the case conceptualization (CC) process. This is an essential step towards the development of an effective treatment plan. It is the middle part of the “golden thread” when working with a client. By offering a sound CC, you are creating focused problem areas that directly connect to the treatment plan, theoretical orientations (e.g., cognitive and behavioral maladaptation, if using CBT), and an etiological understanding (e.g., maladaptive core beliefs) which are driving the maladaptive thinking and actions.
For this CPCC Assignment, you will complete a case conceptualization of your client as illustrated in the Case Presentation: Case Conceptualization (CPCC) Instructions and Case Presentation: Case Conceptualization (CPCC) Template documents found in Canvas.
Requirements
-This assignment should be 4-5 pages in length, not including the title page and reference page.
- Please utilize APA 7th edition formatting, including headings, subheadings, and intext citations.
-The assignment requires at least two citation sources, one of which should be the Sperry and Sperry (2020) class textbook. Additional references are to be scholarly articles published within the last five years unless they are considered seminal works in the field of study.
Instructions
You will use the data from your Copilot client case and data generated during CPAD assignment. This client will be the client for your Benchmark Case Presentation Final (CPF). Your CPF will be comprised of three components: the Assessment and Diagnosis (CPAD) Case Conceptualization (CPCC), and the Treatment Plan (CPTP).
As you work on the CPCC, you may notice that you need additional clinical information to complete the necessary sections. Be creative and enhance the case as needed to present a strong case of conceptualization. If you add information for case conceptualization relevant to the client's assessment information, make sure to go back and add it to your CPAD assignment, so it is there when you integrate these assignments for your final Benchmark assignment.
To complete this assignment:
1) Review the Case Presentation: Case Conceptualization (CPCC) Instructions below.
2) Review the Case Presentation: Case Conceptualization (CPCC) Grading Rubric.
3) Review the Case Presentation: Case Conceptualization (CPCC) Template document. Follow the APA formatting as provided in the template. It is developed to help you stay aligned with assignment expectations based on the assignment instructions and grading rubric.
4) Review the Sperry and Sperry (2020) textbook, videos provided, articles, and other readings on case conceptualization, as well as theory-specific examples.
5) Integrate only one theoretical approach that will help the client address the presenting problems and work through a treatment plan to reduce or alleviate symptoms and behaviors. As a counselor-in-training, you do not have a solid foundation for more than one theory as it takes years to master. Use this case to become familiar with applying one theoretical orientation which will guide your treatment planning process.
Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool. Your Turnitin report should be less than 30%.
Please see the additional detailed explanations below for information that needs to be included in the CPCC.
Case Presentation: Case Conceptualization Section Descriptions
The case conceptualization has two parts, the theoretical orientation and the narrative. Please see below for the corresponding instructions
Narrative of the Theoretical Orientation
Choose one counseling theoretical orientation that aims to add meaning to the underpinnings of human thoughts, emotions, drives, and behaviors. The theory will serve as a road map to later guide the treatment plan and make fundamental changes within themselves and their lives. This should be one page where only one theory is chosen; the major concepts are explained and shown to be evidence-based using peer-reviewed journals/books. Include the basic tenets of the chosen theory. This theoretical orientation will later guide the interventions for the treatment plan.
Narrative of the Case Conceptualization
For example, from a CBT lens if a client's maladaptive core belief is “I am unlovable,” then connect this belief to his maladaptive automatic thoughts (“nobody likes me”), conditional assumptions (if nobody likes me, then I will act out), and maladaptive behaviors using the client problems (sadness, depressed, hyperactivity, problems in school, conflict with sister).
