Part2
After a career in management, Robert Greenleaf (founder of the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership) coined the phrase “servant leadership” in his 1970 essay, “Servant as Leader.” The idea of a leader as a servant was a novel concept for organizations at the time, and it remains a very popular approach to leadership. Greenleaf said, “The organization exists for the person as much as the person exists for the organization” (Center for Servant Leadership, n.d.).
Have you ever worked for or encountered a leader who embodied the servant leadership approach? Do you think this approach is ideal for the current professional environment or is it obsolete?
