Week 10 Assignment
This assignment is divided into two parts. In Part 1, you will read and interpret a published research article that uses some form of an analysis of variance (ANOVA). In Part 2, you will examine a graduate program or job posting in the social sciences that uses statistics.
Part 1: Interpreting a Published Research Article
For this assignment you will select one of the articles below. Each article uses a form of an ANOVA covered in this week’s assigned textbook reading. You can access these articles through the Capella Library.
Select one of the following articles:
Criteria:
· Identify the descriptive and inferential analyses reported in the article
· Identify the type of analysis of variance conducted in the study
· Identify the variables in the analysis of variance conducted in the study
· Summarize the results of an analysis of variance
· Identify the sample used in the study and the population to which the results of the study can be generalized
Which
article did you select? |
|
What
descriptive statistics were presented in the article? |
|
What
inferential tests were conducted? There may be more than one; list them all. |
|
What
type of analysis of variance test was conducted (e.g., one-way between groups
ANOVA, repeated measures ANOVA, factorial ANOVA, ANCOVA, MANOVA)? |
|
In
the analysis of variance, what were the independent and dependent variables?
If there was a repeated measure or covariate, what was it? |
|
Write
one paragraph summarizing the main findings of the study using language that
someone with little to no knowledge of statistics can understand. |
|
Describe
the sample used in this study. Include the sample size and describe the key
demographic features of the sample. |
|
To
what population can the results of this study be generalized? Explain how you
determined this. |
|
Part 2: Examining a Graduate Program or Job Posting
Directions: For this part of the assignment, you will identify a graduate program or job posting in the social sciences that involves statistics. This should be different from the program or career you used in the Week 1 Assignment. If you select a graduate program, complete Option A only. If you select a job posting, complete Option B only.
Criteria:
· Describe a graduate program or career in the social sciences that uses statistics
· Explain why you think you would or would not be interested in pursuing the program or career you selected
Option A: Complete this section if you are selecting a graduate
program. |
|
What is the full name of the graduate program you selected? |
|
Provide a direct link to your selected program. |
|
Are there any statistics-related entrance requirements? If so,
describe them. |
|
What statistics courses are students in this program required to
take? |
|
Is this a graduate program you think you will be interested in
applying to in the future? Why or why not? |
|
Option B: Complete this section if you are selecting a job
posting. |
|
What is the full job title? |
|
Provide a direct link to your selected job posting. |
|
What are the statistics-related job requirements? (i.e., skills
applicants must have) |
|
What are the statistics-related job responsibilities?
(i.e., tasks the person in the role will perform) |
|
Is this a position you think you will be interested in applying
for in the future? Why or why not? |
|
