By analyzing group models through the lens of the ARAO framework, you will strengthen your ability to assess interventions critically and advocate for approaches that align with the values of the social work profession. You also reflect on your experience using Skillsetter, focusing on the specific interpersonal and facilitation skills essential for leading effective and inclusive groups, managing dynamics, and fostering a safe and empowering environment for participants.

Discussion: Application of Knowledge Part 1: Applying the ARAO to Group Interventions

In MSW 544, you were introduced to the WomanAct’s (2024) Anti-Racist and Anti-Oppressive (ARAO) framework. The ARAO framework comprises ten principles that emphasize the importance of addressing systemic racism and oppression by recognizing power dynamics, social differences, and the impact of privilege (WomanAct, 2024). Principles of the ARAO Answer both of the following questions.

Question 1: Identify and briefly describe an evidence-based group intervention. Question 2: Apply at least three principles from the ARAO framework to the group intervention and discuss whether the group intervention aligns with anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices or continues to perpetuate systemic racism. Part 2: Skillsetter

Question 1: What specific skills did you focus on this week, and how did you apply them? Question 2: What successes did you experience in applying these skills, and (if applicable) how did this align with the feedback you received from AI, your instructor, or your peers? Question 3: Were there any skills that were particularly difficult to use, and (if applicable) how did this align with the feedback you received from AI, your instructor, or your peers?
