Part 1: Joints (stability versus mobility).

The joints in our bodies are designed in almost a brilliant way from a mobility perspective. There are joints in the human body that provide a great deal of mobility, and there are joints in the body that provide a great deal of stability.  List 2 from each category and explain what is referred to as the stability/mobility trade-off.

Part 2: Muscles and Joint Actions

When the muscle contracts and relaxes it goes through 2 phases of muscle motion: concentric and eccentric.  Muscles go through these dynamic phases of movement in action around a joint.  Select a joint in the human body and movement associated with that joint.  In the movement you selected, what is the joint action, muscle action and link to a video of the movement itself.

Developing Group Identity
Although team climate develops from how people perceive the interrelationships among the group members, a strong coach or leader can help influence the effective functioning of the group. Furthermore, research has shown that strong social support provided by a group has positive benefits, including aiding in physical and mental recovery. This exercise will allow you to think of some ways that you, as a leader, can help a group/team establish a strong sense of group identity. In addressing the following, apply the key finding of "athletes who reported personally exchanging information with a higher number of their teammates early in the season reposted........", in this week's reading, "Examining the prospective relationship between communication network structure and task cohesion and team performance."

PART I:

1. Imagine that you have just become the coach of a basketball team or that you are leading a group of clients in a cardiac rehabilitation program. You believe that situations or communication with the team or clients would go better if the group developed an identity.

NOTE: Identify yourself as 1) a coach of a basketball team or 2) a leader of cardiac rehabilitation program in BOLD font within your initial discussion.

2. In your initial discussion, describe specific ways you would help a group form a sense of group identity.

a. Ways to enhance social support
b. Ways to increase proximity
c. Ways to increase group distinctiveness
d. Ways to create a perception of fairness

share a professional message you have recently read or written. This could be an email, memo, letter, website content, social media message, flyer, or brochure. You might even generate a business message using ChatGPT on a topic of your choice, such as "write an email to employees explaining that department meetings are all required" or "write an email to current customers introducing a new refund policy that requires a 1% restocking fee for any returned items." Share a link to the message or 1-3 paragraphs from the message and answer the following questions:

  • Who is the target audience and what is the purpose of the message? How do you know?
  • What are THREE ways that the message uses the Six Cs of Communication (courtesy, conciseness, clarity, concreteness, completeness, and correctness)? Provide examples! If the message doesn't use the Six Cs well, then provide three revisions of sentences to demonstrate using the Six Cs in a better way.
  • What are TWO ways that the message demonstrates the "you" approach? Consider how the message focuses on the target audience's wants or needs in terms of word choice, content, organization, or design.
