World War II required the United States government to fight a war on two fronts - in Europe and the Pacific.  It also wrestled with itself on the homefront.  Starting in 1942 Japanese-Americans (and some German-Americans) were placed in internment camps and forced to leave behind their previous lives.

This website covers some of the history surrounding the camps:  https://www.ushistory.org/us/51e.aspLinks to an external site.

More detailed coverage can be found in the narrative on this National Archives website: https://www.archives.gov/education/lessons/japanese-relocationLinks to an external site.

Using the websites and the coverage of this issue already in the lesson, answer the following questions.

Why did President Roosevelt order the internment?  Were these reasons justified at the time?  What arguments were there at the time against interning Japanese-Americans?  In your estimation what type of precedent did this internment create and can it still be seen today?

Your response should be in complete sentences and at least 250 words.
