Learning Outcomes:
As set out in your Course Outline, this assignment requires you to:

LO3 Critically distinguish ethical situations and recommend and apply appropriate actions; and
LO4 Evaluate elements of workplace behaviours and create higher performing collaborative organisations.
You work for Future Leaders Inc (FLI), a teambuilding and leadership training provider which has had a very good level of success in training future leaders in New Zealand and Australia. The company has been around for more than 25 years, and your teambuilding and leadership programmes have been top sellers in these two markets.
- Two years ago, FLI ventured into the ASEAN market with the same teambuilding and the same leadership programmes (for mid-level managers) that have done well in the Australian and New Zealand markets. However, FLI has found it rather tough going in Thailand and Cambodia and you have received a number of comments from human resource managers in these countries questioning the appropriateness and relevance of these two programmes in these countries.
What culturally influenced behaviours might have resulted in companies in Thailand and Cambodia questioning the appropriateness and relevance of the teambuilding and leadership programmes? What changes might be needed to be made to your training programmes and why? You will be expected to engage relevant theoretical frameworks to justify the changes needed. Please illustrate your answer with at least one example from each of the two countries. (30 marks)
- In some other ASEAN countries, FLI’s training programme syllabus have been well received, but breaking into these markets has been a little more challenging. For example, in some countries you have found that selling your programmes to government and private entities often required the payment of ‘facilitation fees’. Not paying such fees would almost always mean that your company would not be included for consideration. A troubling feature of these ‘facilitation fees’ is that no official receipts are provided for the payment of such fees.
Using appropriate ethics models to support your answer, argue for or against this way of doing business – you will be expected to justify your recommendations to FLI headquarters using appropriate theoretical underpinnings. (30 marks)
- As your company increases its presence on the international markets, you believe that there needs to be a greater level of collaboration between the international affiliates. Discuss at least three practical initiatives that FLI might take to enhance collaboration between headquarters in New Zealand and its Australian and Asian subsidiaries? Please engage theoretical frameworks in your discussion where appropriate. (30 marks)
- You will be expected to express your ideas in the form of a formal business report. A total of 10 marks will be allocated to the following:a) Language mastery (4 marks)
b) Referencing (4 marks)
c) Formatting of the report (2 marks)
(10 marks)
