Identification of Planned CPD Activity

Your choice of course needs to be carefully considered in partnership with your Skills Coach and Employer/Line Manager to ensure a good alignment with your development needs and also with consideration to evidencing the required skills and technical knowledge for the apprenticeship standard. Appendix 1 contains a full list of apprenticeship standard specialist pathway skills.

Note - you are not required to evidence all skills in your pathway within one assignment, however, you should consider the evidence currently accumulated from previous modules, and your remaining journey through the programme.

Assignment Tasks

The main submission is a single individual portfolio report that should consist of:

1. A critical review of reflective activities as typically practiced in your profession compared to two well-known reflective models used in academia. If you have already taken a Professional Practice module, choose at least one new reflective model to use in your comparison.

2. A reflective discussion of the selection of CPD in relation to the wider technical area, the context within your organisation, and your specific role. The discussion should reference your professional development plan which should be included as an appendix to this report.

3. An overview of how the CPD has been applied within your own professional practice.

This section should include:

  • An overview of the CPD
  • Identification of specific projects for which this CPD has had, will have, or could have (had) an impact.
  • A discussion of how you have applied or will apply the new skills or knowledge gained including technical standards addressed
  • A summary of next steps in your professional development based on your experience.

Notes

  • A critically reflective and evaluative narrative should be maintained throughout, examining the effect of implementing the knowledge acquired from the CPD course from a technical and professional perspective, comparing to your previous practice and other potential approaches
    identified through literature.
  • Where time constraints mean that the application of the learning from the CPD has not yet been possible, this section should focus on detailed plans ithin appropriate projects that have been identified or the focus can be on previous projects to which the learning might have been applied. Where full evidencing against the standard may not yet be possible, discussion should be at a level that that it is evident that the new knowledge has been assimilated.
  • Include an appendix which details any application of the CPD learning which evidences (fully or partially) an apprenticeship standard. You are not expected to cover every standard. Typically, 1-3 standards might be addressed in this assignment.

4. A discussion on whether and how reflective practice could be integrated or further developed as a standard activity in an organisation like your own
