Final Paper (5-7 pgs.)Your mission for this assignment is to use the concepts you learned in Kleniewski & Thomas and apply them to a city of your choice.  You have already searched for and gained feedback on your analysis of 3 sociological articles about cities. Please use the comments on your early drafts to either choose different articles, focus your topic, or enhance your summaries of the articles you have chosen. 

**For the final paper, you can also use up to 3 websites to search for new information or enhance what you have found. 

GRADING CRITERIA FOR FINAL PAPER

TOTAL POSSIBLE POINTS = 30

 

 

 5 Points          Introduction/Conclusion 

15 Points         Use of Course Material/Relation to Course Concepts

10 Points         Organization/Style (including formatting and grammar)

 

How to Organize – Choose your issues:  This class took us through the emergence of early cities and city issues.  We examined the Population Organization Environment and Technology in the development of urban environments.  We looked at the Industrial Revolution and how it transformed urban environments and led to inequality and city problems.  We also examined how sociologists go about studying urban life – and how urban planners approach developing livable, sustainable, ideal cities.  Choose issues that directly relate to your city of choice and to course material.  You definitely want to include quotes references to the textbook and from your outside sources.

For #2  What to use?  Use the textbook and your library sources to structure your topic.  If you need additional detail (like population size, city size, demographics, crime rates, etc.), you can use city websites (all cities have them) and/or census data. Don’t forget to CITE your sources and include all outside sources in your reference list.
